Mom knows best. That’s what we have grown up hearing, but in all reality, this notion is true. Wisdom passed down generations of mother’s is truly the best advice you could get. From health remedies, to practices to general advice, mom was right. Mom is right. They are intuitive, and always know how to keep you in check.

Here’s looking back at all the small things that made a large impact on our lives. What is something that you fondly remember as an advice your mom gave to you? Maybe its embedded somewhere in between the lines.

Starting the day right

If there’s one thing we have all heard since we’ve been young, it’s been the notion of starting the day right for a good day ahead. This meant, waking up on time, being active in the morning, and eating the right kind of breakfast, whether it be a wholesome spread, or a quick spoonful of sugarfree chyawanprash. No matter what kind of background you must’ve grown up in, there were and still are every mother’s go to mantra to a good life.

Preferring natural over processed

Do you remember looking at a indulgent cookie and your mother convinced you that she can make fresh ones at home whenever you want. That’s one of the cues into the phenomenon of moms insisting on natural things over processed, manufactured things. This applies across categories, from food, to skincare. You would inherently find yourself being drawn towards natural products, ayurvedic products for food even, since it is so engrained in our minds, and rightly so, that living natural is much more preferable and sustainable than buying into overly manufactured, and processed things.

Remedies that transcend bad health

A glass of warm turmeric milk, each day was how a lot of Indian mothers insisted on starting the day. While turmeric has a lot of medicinal remedies, it is an ingredient, and a daily ritual that transcends being ill. Similarly, something like an ayurvedic cough syrup, does relive the symptoms, and contributes to an overall wellbeing. A daily dose of mixed herbs and spices (though the concoctions defer depending on culture), has also been imbibed in our lives. These concoctions contain ingredients meant to fight off some illness, but are also part of our daily lives in some form. The Indian Kadha is case and point.

Always be prepared

To be resourceful and think on our feet is something that all of us seem to have inculcated from the women in our lives. Whether it was something small or big, our mothers always had a solution. To remember to plan ahead, taking into consideration all the unforeseen, to always having the right medicines packed when you go away for a long time from home, and even the simplest thing like meal planning, to make sure we don’t compromise on our nutrition when we have a hard day ahead, mom’s do in fact know best.

Finding the right balance

Balance is everything. Balance between work and play, healthy and indulgent, everything. Something we learned at a very early age from our mothers was just this. Balanced diet, a balanced life, and it is truly an important thing to understand. It makes everything easier to handle, and keeps our lives in check.

At the end of the day, mothers have always been right. No matter if these lessons were spelt out as they are in this article or not, they have been engrained in us. As we walk through life, all grown up, we reminisce and remember, mom was right. Mom was always right, and there’s nothing that will ever make us doubt that again.
